Absolutely crazy about Swakara!

Copenhagen Fashion Week: Scandinavia’s stake in the international fashion scene

From a small fragmented beginning, Copenhagen Fashion Week has become the largest fashion event in northern Europe, attracting 57,000 visitors, of which a little less than half are from abroad.

A number of components make up this event, these include Copenhagen International Fur Fair, CPH Vision, Gallery and Copenhagen Fashion Weekend and includes a wide variety of shows.

Other fashion centres have cultivated their own style culture, such as Milan, known for exclusivity, or Paris concentrating upon haute couture (high fashion) or London with it’s underground scene, and New York specialising in apparel and leisure wear. Eva Kruse, Executive Director of the Danish Fashion Institute believes that it’s important for Scandinavia to emphasise it’s own characteristics and values.

With fur gaining an increasing foothold in fashion it was no surprise that several designers chose to show fur on the catwalks during the Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Kopenhagen Fur was one of the main sponsors of this event and put on a display in the Bella Centre and Forum; designers exhibiting in the Forum were:

Elise Gug, Yde & Tokum, Bente Houman Andersen, Anna Melander, and Kopenhagen Fur Studio.

Elise Glug, a Danish designer now based in Italy, is very excited about working with fur. Her experience includes working for several years with the renowned Danish furrier Birger Christensen.

Exclusiveness is one of the key features characterising Elise’s partnership with Kopenhagen Fur and her three Swakara styles.

“I’ve designed three Swakara jackets in co-operation with the furriers at Kopenhagen Studio, Kopenhagen Fur’s creative laboratory. I’ve strived to design the three jackets as differently as possible, however, with some degree of similarity.” These three styles feature a small ritzy bolero with sued fastening, a short, sporty pilot jacket and a classic coat with sued insertions on the side and a tie-belt.

“In the past I’ve experimented with fur in my collections. It is really beautiful, warm and luxurious material, and I’m absolutely crazy about Swakara!”

It’s important to me that my designs can be used for more than just one season, particularly because fur is a very expensive material.”
