Fur types included in Kopenhagen Fur's labelling scheme

Four fur types are included in Kopenhagen Fur's labelling scheme: mink, swakara, chinchilla and fox. The four fur types are graded in four different qualities: Kopenhagen Purple, Kopenhagen Platinum, Kopenhagen Burgundy and Kopenhagen Ivory.

Kopenhagen Mink

Quality mink skins are soft and glossy with full and thick fur. It is without a doubt one of the  most luxurious materials provided by nature. Due to the exclusiveness of the fur, designers such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Gucci, Hermés and Jean-Paul Gaultier are all devoted mink fans.

Mink skins are available in a wide range of colours. There are more than 25 different natural colours varying from the clearest white to the darkest black. Moreover, new techniques have given tanners the opportunity to dye fur into all colours imaginable.

Mink fur consists of two types of hair: underfur and guard hair. The underfur is the shorter hairs at the base of the fur, while the guard hairs are the longer hairs covering the underfur. A high quality mink fur has lush, thick underfur and equal, lustrous guard hair.

All mink skins sold at Kopenhagen Fur are sorted and graded according to the organisation's high standards and principles. If a mink coat carries a Kopenhagen Fur label it is thus a certification that it is of high quality.

Kopenhagen Swakara

Swakara is a brand name for karakul or Persian lamb that have been raised in Namibia. The name is derived from 'South-West African Karakul'. Swakara is the highest quality available of Persian lamb, and it is only sold at Kopenhagen Fur.

The curls of Swakara are soft, smooth, silky and supple, and the coats, jackets and capes are light and comfortable to wear. With its satiny sheen and markings that resemble water-silk, swakara is often called the ecological pelt. This is also because the grazing habits of the free-range and hardy karakul sheep are less damaging to the environment than those of any other breed.

Swakara is the most fashionable type of fur at present. The catwalks have shown one Swakara coat after another during the past seasons - and it seems that the trend will continue. Especially designers such as Celine, Donna Karan, Ferragamo, Ferre, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace have carried the trend to the catwalks.

All Swakara skins sold at Kopenhagen Fur are sorted and graded according to the organisation's high standards and principles. If a Swakara coat carries a Kopenhagen Fur label it is thus certification that it is of high quality.

Kopenhagen Chinchilla

Chinchilla skins are so soft that it is hard to describe. The finest chinchilla skins have dense and long furs with an equal lustre. Due to the look and feel of chinchilla furs they are regarded as one of the most exclusive materials available.

Most chinchillas have a beautiful blue-grey colour, darkest on the back shading to a lighter grey on the sides. However, several other colours are available such as white, ebony, violet and sapphire.

The fur of the chinchilla is very fine and silky. This makes it desirable for high-class designers such as Fendi, Gianfranco Ferre, Ferragamo, Julien MacDonald, Marni and Roberto Cavalli.

Kopenhagen Fox

Fox has been a fashionable fur item for years. However, with the so-called ‘Russian Revolution’ trend on the catwalks the fur has once again had its renaissance. Highly regarded designers use fox in their collections. These include Burberry, Herrera, Georgio Armani, Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld and Marc Jacobs.

Fox is known for its lush, thick fur. The hairs are longer and more easily recognisable than on any other type of fur, and fox fur is therefore a treasured material for trimmings and accessories.

All fox skins sold at Kopenhagen Fur are sorted and graded according to the organisation’s high standards. If a fox coat or trimming carries the Kopenhagen Fur label it is thus a certification that it is of high quality.
