New swakara line from Bente Houmann

12 March 2008

Bowling hats, butterflies and smoking jackets. Marlene Dietrich performing Lilli Marlene. Cabaret in the Wild West. Feminine sexiness in masculine attire.

Designer Bente Houmann Andersen’s new line The Audacity of Class emphasises class and classiness with themes that transcends time and place. This could be the 1920s or yesterday. It could be Namibia or Oklahoma. The clothes are classically sexy.

Namibian swakara appeals particularly to Bente, who has travelled the country several times to understand the nature of the animals and the way the farms work.

- I love to work with fur and everything about it, says Bente Houmann Andersen. From the feel, the texture and its history. In every skin, there is a history and you just need to get it out, she adds.

Kopenhagen Fur is the only place in the world where you can buy swakara skins. Swakara is the trade name for karakul skins bred in Namibia. Swakara skins are being sold under Kopenhagen Fur’s label together with mink, fox and chinchilla skins. Moreover, swakara has been approved to carry the international Origin Assured (OA™) mark.
