Spanish designer José Castro’s parents owned a restaurant where he practically grew up. In ‘El Retiro’, as the restaurant was called, he experienced all of life’s parties: weddings, banquets and communions as well as burials and funerals.
Even though the scene inspired him then and still does, it was not the suits and dresses he saw that have made him the designer he is today. It was the cinema.
Every Tuesday José Castro would go with his father to see a movie at the local cinema. They preferred to see horror movies, which is still a big source of inspiration for the designer today. He was – and still is – drawn to the horror universe even though it also scared him.
José Castro’s collections are today a mix the colours, clothes, scenography and music he remembers from his childhood movies.
José Castro has cooperated with Kopenhagen Fur since 2008.
