Russian fur market is back on its feet.

For the 19th time, the Russian fur fair Mexa has opened in Moscow. The Russian market has been severely hit by the financial crisis, but now there are signs that things are about to change. At Kopenhagen Fur's latest auction, Russian customers were back in business, and the Mexa Fair has come off to a good start. The number of exhibitors has increased by 50 per cent reaching almost 90 companies. The Exhibitors are primarily from Russia, Greece and Germany.

On the opening day a clear feeling of optimism was present at the fair grounds. Visitors particularly showed great interest in buying skins. Apparently, stocks are low.

As he fair commenced, temperatures dropped rapidly in Russia getting even below zero at night time. Winter continues to be the single most important parameter influencing fur sales at retail level.
