World's first fur executive programme inaugurated

After months of endeavors, the world's first ever executive education programme tailor-made for the fur industry welcomed its first class on 23 October. Tsinghua University-Kopenhagen Fur Studio became the venue for the opening ceremony and 3-day lectures.

The programme is officially called Executive Education for Fur CEOs, the latest project jointly undertaken by Kopenhagen Fur and Tsinghua University. All 25 students come from major fur manufacturing areas and retail markets across China. Most of them are owners or senior managers of fur manufactories, retail chains or dressing plants. Two students are from the fashion industry.

Torben Nielsen, managing director of Kopenhagen Fur, inaugurated the programme together with professor Xiao Wenling, dean of textile and fashion design at Tsinghua University. Torben spoke highly of the programme and the students.

- It's the first such programme for the fur industry torben_lecture_executive_prever and again demonstrates Kopenhagen Fur's role as a front runner and our commitment to knowledge sharing, he said.

Torben gave the first lecture entitled It's All about Transparency, sharing Kopenhagen Fur's success recipe and how he saw the challenges in the industry from an auction house's perspective. Patrizia Venturelli Christensen, marketing director of Kopenhagen Fur, followed up with a lecture on the fur industry's historical and sociographical perspectives.

The second day lecture was given by renowned Chinese expert Yang Dajun on garment industry business models and value creation. On the third day, Prof. Xiao Wenling tackled international fashion mechanism in the morning; in the afternoon, it was Prof. Liu Lingling of Tsinghua University business school who expounded on the Chinese macro-economy.

- Kopenhagen Fur and Tsinghua University are both leaders in the own field. This is the highest possible platform for the fur industry. All lecturers are first-class experts, said Mr. Yu Cong, a Zhejiang Province-based manufacturer who made 6,000 mink coats last year.

Ms. Fang Linping, a big retailer in Beijing, couldn't agree more: "I have been too excited to sleep the last two days," she said. "I feel so encouraged by Torben's advice on differentiation and making products incomparable. He gives the confidence that I'm on the right path." Ms. Fang owns several fur shops in high-end department stores in Beijing, and due to its positioning and emphasis on quality and service, one of her shops is awarded Kopenhagen Fur Certified Boutique this year.

The students will return to Tsinghua University-Kopenhagen Fur Studio in November for their second module. They must finish five compulsory modules, each last three days, to get the diploma jointly issued by Tsinghua and Kopenhagen Fur. In June 2011, an optional module will be on offer in Copenhagen. The modules will center on management, marketing, design, luxury business, media management, among others.

- Again Kopenhagen Fur makes a breakthrough for the fur industry. I'm delighted to see so many entrepreneurs and managers respond to the call, said Prof. Xiao.
