Innovation is the focal point of Kopenhagen Studio's work, where the overall goal is to ensure the use of fur not only in fashion but also in other related industries. Moreover, Kopenhagen Studio strives to share its innovative spirit with different partners in order to ensure a blossoming future for the fur trade.
Fur is traditionally regarded as a material for clothing. However, fur has also been used for other purposes as long as mankind has existed. At Kopenhagen Studio we try to reinvent fur continuously. This also means that we have a strong focus on using the material for other purposes than just clothing.
Interior is probably one of the most common uses of fur other than clothing. Furniture, blankets and other homewear items made from fur have been seen in different forms for centuries. At Kopenhagen Studio we do our utmost to develop the tradition of using fur indoors to create new designs and new usages.
Something that came into focus for Kopenhagen Studio only a few years back, but which has developed rapidly, is accessories. Belts, bags, teddies, shoes, jewellery and many more different items have since 2005 been created at Kopenhagen Studio. Several of these accessories have been put into production by our partners and many other manufacturers have since chosen to focus on this addition to their traditional fur collections. Kopenhagen Studio has a continuous focus on the development of accessories and we keep on thinking of new ways to apply fur to these little items.
Recently Kopenhagen Studio has started focusing on the arts. Already, there have been some projects developed with different artists.
Working with artists is quite different from working with designers. They have a different take on the material and their outcome does not have to live up to the same commercial criteria that designers often require of their work. With innovation as our key focus, partnering up with artists have been a tremendous experience that will for sure renew our way of thinking about fur.
Few industries have so many dedicated people working in it for decades as the fur industry. But in the future we need to attract new people into the trade to continuously renew it and to ensure its survival. Therefore, Kopenhagen Studio invests a lot of time and resources into working with design schools and schools offering furrier education. Thereby we ensure that our knowledge can be handed down to the next generations, while we are constantly challenged by the young designers' ideas and recklessness.
