Danish Fur Breeders’ Laboratory is officially approved to diagnose Aleutian disease virus (causing plasmacytosis). The laboratory’s overall purpose is to ensure an optimal state of health for the Danish fur animals, especially when it comes to infectious diseases.
The laboratory's principal activity is to bring down plasmacytosis in Danish mink farms. In addition, the laboratory delivers blood sampling material to fur farmers, subsequent analysis of samples taken and final reporting of analytical results to the farmers. As an important supplement the laboratory gives advice on how to fight plasmacytosis, cleaning and disinfecting the farms, immunization, etc.
The laboratory analyses nearly 3 million samples per year and up to 25,000 samples a day. In addition, the laboratory runs a virus laboratory and a cell laboratory cell for production of the viral antigen. This viral antigen is produced primarily for the laboratory's own plasmacytosis analysis but is also sold widely to laboratories around the world. The laboratory also analyses blood samples for foreign farmers.
The staff consists of a counselling manager with a permanent staff of 3 administrative employees and a laboratory manager with a permanent staff of 14 employees consisting of laboratory assistants and laboratory technicians.
