Positive start for new fur fair in Athens

For more than thirty years, Greece's only major fur fair has been in Kastoria; but last weekend a new fair was held in Athens. The goal is to attract more international fur buyers to Greece.
- There is a god atmosphere at the fair. The guests actually seem very interested in actually looking at the clothes. This fair has a high and exclusive level, Minas Kiventidis, manufacturer at the Greek/Parisian Calogaunis, says.
The optimistic feeling is apparent at the new fair, Fur Excellence in Athens (FEA). Greece's other large fur fair in Kastoria is more difficult for foreign customers to reach. Therefore the promoters of FEA hope that an international profile can help establish the fair in Athens.
- The goal is to create an exclusive fair, where there is an easier access for our foreign customers. The Russian buyers are still the main group, but we also have guests from countries like Italy and Germany, and we have a exhibitor from Canada, so we are very optimistic, says Nikos Panagiotou, manager of Fur Excellence in Athens.
This year the fair has covered an area of 7,000 m2, and Nikos Panagiotou says that it will be almost three times bigger next year. The exhibitors at the fair have already confirmed that they want to participate next year, and more companies have confirmed attendance as well, both from Kastoria and Siatista, who are the fur production capitals of Greece.
- I have had a lot of positive feedback from the exhibitors. The main part exhibit in Kastoria in May, and it will be exciting to hear their comparisons and evaluations afterwards, Nikos Panagiotou says.
