The first crossover among art, fashion and fur gave birth to 25 stunning pieces that were presented in a fashion show on 11 November by Kopenhagen Fur and Beyond Space Gallery in the famous 798 Art Area in Beijing.

Eight outstanding young contemporary artists and eight fashion designers had been selected as partners to design 25 fur styles for a groundbreaking exhibition called Beyond Fashion. For the first time, the fashion designers and the contemporary artists make an in-depth crossover cooperation, where they share the philosophy behind art and design. The works of the artists and the fashion designers are full of thoughts and creativity, and this is where art and fashion share the results of fusion and re-creation.

At the opening show, the Bauhaus style gallery was filled up with 250 guests, including 80 journalists, all eager for a brand new visual experience. TheDanish ambassador in China, Mr Friis Arne Petersen and his wife graced the event. Friis Arne gave an opening speech commending Kopenhagen Fur's efforts to support Chinese art and fashion.

Mr Torben Nielsen, managing director of Kopenhagen Fur, was interviewed by a large group of Chinese media and he said that 798 Art Area allows people to see under the surface of China.

- Both art and design are for communication. Artists do not create for the purpose of selling their works, while designers make creations to drive more sales. It's very interesting to bring these two together. The artists can feel the way that the society will move. We as a company can also benefit by getting to know that and thus being able to meet the future needs of the consumers, Torben Nielsen said.

Li Wei, one of the artists in the project, used 10,000 tiny LED lights to make the backboard for the catwalk's starting point, endowing the models and the styles with dazzling mystery and silhouette. Paintings of the artists were hung on the walls as background for the models to pose.

All the designers and artists are up-and-coming and cutting-edge, and could be expected to be the dominant force in a couple of years' time. For example, one of the artists Chen Ke, sold one art work combining oil painting and sculpture for over 1 million yuan through an auction this year. And fashion designer Fan Ran was Cosmo 2009 Young Designer of the Year. She graduated from Tsinghua Unversity and St. Martin and now owns her own brand. Zou You was awarded Top 10 Fashion Designer by China Fashion Designers Association.
The exhibition will be open until 12 December 2010.
